Dedicated Individuals with a Passion for Positive Change

Cynamon Mychasiw
CEO

“I came to Brandon and United Way from a small rural Manitoba town. I was afraid that I would miss the way that small towns take care of each other and that sense of community. I still feel that here and I am always amazed at how this district pulls through for each other.”

Janis Evens
Director of Operations

“We have seen many changes to our community over the years, one thing that has not changed, has only gotten stronger, Brandon’s generosity.”

Areta Donnelly

“This year we decided to try and ‘meet the need’ in our community, It was a big challenge and I believe the effort put forth by our community was the real achievement.”

Campaign Chair 2023

Sarah Peto

My name is Sarah Peto and it is my honor to be the 2023 United Way Campaign Chair. I was raised in rural Manitoba and have called Brandon my home for over 30 years with my family. I have served the community as a firefighter and paramedic for over twenty two years with Brandon Fire and Emergency Services.

I am an alumni of Brandon University (BA 2014, Applied Disaster & Emergency Studies) and the Manitoba Emergency Services College. I have remained an active community volunteer as a coach for the Vincent Massey Varsity Girls Rugby program. I have served on the board of the Brandon & District United Way for 6 years and volunteered in many of its events and programs.

I also sit on the board of Project Resilience 911, which spearheads mental health and wellness initiatives and provides resources as well as peer support for emergency services personnel. I actively assist with crisis debriefings as a peer supporter and assist with fundraising to support the organization.

My career has provided me with a unique perspective into the needs of the community. It drives me to push for support of the United Way and its sponsored agencies. I look forward to the opportunity to be the 2023 United Way Campaign Chair.
