COVID-19

Updated Status

United Way Brandon & District (UWBdn) is closely monitoring COVID-19 as it emerges in the United States and in Canada. We are committed to the health and safety of our employees and their families, as well as that of all members of our community.

Over the coming days and weeks as the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, we will work to keep you informed as we learn more about the potential impact locally. The COVID-19 issue continues to be very fluid. The trajectory of the disease, the rate of recovery for communities and the potential severity of global economic impact is rapidly evolving.

Please note the current protocols established by UWBdn:

  • The UWBdn office will be staffed as usual, and we will be available by phone at 204-571-8929.  However, all in person meetings have been cancelled and we ask individuals to refrain completely from coming to our office in person.

  • Brandon’s Largest Garage Sale – Spring Edition has been cancelled.  We will look at the possibility of rescheduling for another date in the upcoming weeks as the situation surrounding COVID-19 is monitored.  This possibility though is not guaranteed.

  • Other upcoming events (Volunteer Fair, Westman Lip Sync) will be assessed in the upcoming weeks and we are currently not making changes to the scheduling of those.

The effects of COVID-19 on our community and the individuals who live here are worrisome, and we ask you to consider those who will be most affected.

  • Small businesses will be feeling the pinch and will be seriously hit by this pandemic.  If you can support local small business in any way, please make the choice to do so. Your purchase today may keep these businesses alive tomorrow.

  • Workers/employees will be seeing their hours reduced or cut completely.  If you have the ability, rally behind these workers affected and support them any way you can.

  • Please…PLEASE stop hoarding supplies and panic buying.  We need to consider the family who cannot afford to shop until payday, or seniors and those with mobility issues who cannot navigate the chaos happening currently in stores.  Not everyone can get to the stores today and we need to ensure that when they can, there is something for them to take home.

At the end of the day, we are all in this together.  Be safe, practise healthy habits, but most of all…be kind.  We may not be able to change what is going on around us, but we control how we respond to it – and to others.
